In March 2013 the event – which is already becoming
cult – celebrated its premiere. The ski race with its original
contests and great atmosphere which was organized
by the ‘Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG’ (Bavarian
Mountain Railway Zugspitzbahn Inc.) and by the
‘Skiclub Garmisch’ as its partner left both participants
and onlookers thrilled. The mode: a total of 150 teams
of four – a mixture or companies, families and groups
of friends – compete against each other on skis or snowboards
in disciplines such as ski-cross, giant slalom, rope
& speed and synchronous & style. Each contest is realized
in cooperation with the partners ADAC, BMW, K2,
Lufthansa, the skiing school Garmisch-Partenkirchen
and Garmisch-Partenkirchen Tourism and the participants
need all their skill, speed, they need to be synchronized
and stylish. Especially the exhibition run down the
final slope of Kandahar makes for great entertainment
as choreography and costumes can be chosen freely – from
historic to bizarre – and after that the creative athletes
are welcomed to the finish area with surprise tasks like
a snow chain contest. Apart from a lifelong spot on the
Winnerwall at CafèBar Kandahar the winners receive a
wooden sculpture of a chamois as well as valuable prizes.
