hoch anspruchsvolles Projekt: Um die
sehr engen Bearbeitungstoleranzen
zu erreichen, ist die Bearbeitung in
einem vollklimatisierten Umfeld notwendig.
Der zu bearbeitende Motorblock
darf sich nur in einem Toleranzfeld
von ± 1 °C zur Umgebungstemperatur
bewegen. Und auch für die neue
Generation der VW-Dieselmotoren
mit Common-Rail-Einspritzung wird
Honsel signifikante Anteile liefern, so
Pfannschmidt.
Nicht nur bei den führenden
Pkw-, sondern auch bei allen Nutzfahrzeugherstellern
ist Honsel mit
Produkten vertreten: vor allem bei
europäischen Getriebegehäusen für
schwere Lkw hat das Unternehmen
eine solide Stellung inne. Getriebeteile
bilden mit ca. 46 Prozent den größten
Anteil am Honsel-Produktumsatz.
Fahrwerksteile werden im Kokillen-,
Sandguss und Druckguss gefertigt.
Unter Einsatz von Sandgusstechnologien
hat Honsel einen neuen
Volvo-Subframe entwickelt: Es ist das
erste Mal, dass diese Technologie für
komplette Achsaufhängungsprodukte
verwendet wurde. Zu den größeren
Aufträgen zählen ein Vorderradträger
für PSA, ein Schwenklager für BMW,
ein Lagergehäuse für Volkswagen. Für
den Mini II von BMW hat Honsel kürzlich
einen neuen Längslenker eingeführt.
Der Umsatzanteil des Produktfeldes
Fahrwerk liegt bei 13 Prozent.
Innenteile und Spaceframes stellen
ein kleines, aber dynamisch wachsendes
Segment dar. Ein wichtiges Produktprogramm
sind Überrollbügel
für den New Beatle, Golf und EOS
von Volkswagen. Weitere Produkte
sind Zierleisten für Porsche, Instrumententräger
für die S-Klasse von
Mercedes sowie Airbaggehäuse aus
einem gestanzten Strangpressprofil
für den schwedischen Autoliv-Konzern,
dem größten Hersteller für
Fahrzeugsicherheitssysteme. Honsel
liefert jährlich ca. 700.000 dieser Gehäuse,
hauptsächlich für Beifahrerairbags.
Der Anteil des Produktfeldes
Karosserie am Umsatz liegt bei vier
Prozent, soll aber bis 2010/11 um
weitere zwei Prozentpunkte steigen.

One of the world’s leading development
and system partners of the automobile
industry, Germany’s Honsel GmbH &
Co. KG, will present itself at Gifa 2007.
Honsel has focused on the development
and production of light-metal products
made from aluminium and magnesium
in the core fields of engines, transmissions,
chassis and auto bodies. In the
business year 2006/07 Honsel’s turnover
amounted to some 800 million euros,
over 90% of which came from the company’s
automotive business.
As Heinz Pfannschmidt, Chairman of
the Board of Honsel, recently explained
to journalists, in the coming years engine
components will provide the greatest
growth opportunities for the company.
In 2005/06 product turnover in the engines
sector amounted to 27%. Growth
will be driven further by the production
of engine blocks for PSA, AMG/Daimler-
Chrysler, Jaguar, Audi and MMC, and of
cylinder heads for Volkswagen. The company
is sole supplier of the 12-cylinder
engine blocks for the Maybach and the
Mercedes S-Class, supplies 6-cylinder engine
blocks for many Mercedes models,
and is also sole supplier of all Audi diesel
cylinder heads and Volvo 5/6 cylinder
heads. Recently the 6-cylinder Short I6
engine block and cylinder head for Ford/
PSA was introduced – one of the largest
contracts ever landed by Honsel. The
Short I6 is a very sophisticated project:

tolerances, machining must be carried
out in a fully climate-controlled environment.
The engine block to be machined
must be kept in an ambient temperature
with a tolerance range of only ± 1°C.
And according to Pfannschmidt, Honsel
will also be supplying significant proportions
of the new generation of VW
diesel engines with common-rail fuel
injection.
Transmission components for both
passenger cars and commercial vehicles
account for the largest fraction of
Honsel’s product turnover, namely 46%.
Chassis components are made by gravity
diecasting, sand casting and pressure diecasting.
Using sand-casting technologies
Honsel has developed a new Volvo subframe:
the first time that this technology
has been used for complete axle suspension
products. The turnover fraction from
the chassis product field is around 13%.
Interior parts and space-frames constitute
a small but dynamically growing
segment. An important product range
are safety rollover bars for Volkswagen’s
new Beatle, Golf and EOS. In addition
Honsel supplies around 700,000 airbag
casings each year, made from stamped
extrusions. The fraction contributed to
turnover by the auto body product sector
is around 4% but should increase by
2% or so by 2010/00.
