Melt treatment in non-ferrous metal foundries
At Gifa 2007 the melt treatment
division of Foseco GmbH, Germany
will present new products
for the automated treatment of
aluminium melts and the control
of melt treatment processes.
A new electromechanical hydrogen
sensor enables direct and rapid measurement
of the hydrogen content of
aluminium melts, either as individual
measurements or continuously for
the permanent monitoring and documentation
of hydrogen content, for
example in metering furnaces. The
sensor detects hydrogen selectively,
i.e. without being influenced by scavenging
gases such as nitrogen or argon.
Accordingly, the sensor can also
be used during a degassing treatment.
Coupling of the sensor to a rotary
degassing unit enables control and
automation of the entire degassing
process, or allows a desired hydrogen

The new MTS 1500 melt treatment
system enables automated melt
treatment in a single step in which,
during rotary degassing, granulated
melt treatment products for purification,
modification, grain refinement
or the removal of unwanted alkali
and alkaline-earth metals are added
in a controlled manner. With a newly
developed and very efficient rotor
design, the degassing process is improved
still further and the distribution
of the treatment additives in the
melt is optimised.
The Insural melt transport system
allows rapid and cost-saving relining
of transport ladles and saves energy
costs thanks to outstandingly good
insulation. The non-wetting property
of the lining material prevents oxide
caking in the transport ladle and so
contributes towards improving the
melt quality.

Erstmals lobt die Messe Düsseldorf einen
Preis für besonders innovative Gussprodukte
aus. Der „Internationale Newcast
Award“ soll aus der Vielfalt der gezeigten
Gussteile diejenigen auszeichnen, die in
hervorragender Weise die Vorteile des
gegossenen Bauteils im Wettbewerb mit
anderen Herstellerverfahren zeigen. Der
Award wird dabei in drei Kategorien
verliehen: für das Gussteil mit der besten
Funktionsintegration, für die beste Substitution
eines anderen Fertigungsverfahrens
sowie für die beste gießtechnische
Lösung durch Erweiterung der gießtechnischen
Grenzen.
