tailor-ma<strong>de</strong> one-off products which<br />
fulfil their purpose for the customer<br />
in an optimum<br />

suppliers serve<br />
above all the<br />
steel and iron<br />
industry, the<br />

cement industries, and the chemical<br />
and petrochemical sectors.<br />
More than just plant construction<br />
Different as their target branches are,<br />
most thermal process suppliers have<br />
one thing in common: the mainly medium-sized<br />
companies involved have<br />
long offered more than just plain plant<br />
construction. The customer <strong>de</strong>fines<br />
his needs and the plant engineer then<br />
sets out possible solution approaches.<br />
After <strong>de</strong>livery, the industrial furnace<br />
then has to be integrated into the customer’s<br />
existing process chain, and<br />
the supplier also sees to the training<br />
of the operating personnel and to the<br />
maintenance of the plant. Mo<strong>de</strong>rn<br />
industrial furnaces are nowadays optimally<br />
integrated into the operator’s<br />
production flow and distortion due to<br />
tempering is thereby minimised. The<br />
interaction with robots and storage<br />
systems also works smoothly – the<br />
thermal process branch has much<br />
to do with the fact that production<br />
processes in industry are constantly<br />
becoming more efficient and more<br />
flexible.<br />
Integration into the customer’s IT<br />
environment is also atten<strong>de</strong>d to: innovative<br />
quality assurance systems doc-<br />
ument the heating process data and<br />
store them in the company’s master<br />
data-processing system. The energy<br />
efficiency of mo<strong>de</strong>rn thermal process<br />
plant is also impressive. For <strong>de</strong>ca<strong>de</strong>s<br />
companies have been working successfully<br />
to keep cutting the energy<br />
consumption of industrial furnaces,<br />
and rising energy costs are keeping<br />
the matter on the agenda. In recent<br />
years a series of methods for reducing<br />
energy consumption have been <strong>de</strong>veloped<br />
to maturity, but these used not<br />
to be economically viable. The rise in<br />
energy prices is changing the trend<br />
here. And the environment-friendliness<br />
of the plants is also playing an<br />
increasingly important role.<br />
THERMPROCESS Symposium<br />
The fair will highlight the performance<br />
of the branch in every respect, a claim<br />
which the THERMPROCESS Symposium<br />
also intends to fulfil. This will take<br />
place in a separate area of the exhibition<br />
hall so that visitors will be able to<br />
attend the corresponding events spontaneously.<br />
The programme will run<br />
from 13 to 15 June and participation<br />
is free for all visitors to THERMPROC-<br />
ESS, Gifa, Metec and Newcast.<br />
The importance attributed by the<br />
industrial furnace branch to research<br />
and <strong>de</strong>velopment is also attested by<br />
another event: the <strong>special</strong> show of<br />
the members and research institutes<br />
of the Research Association for Industrial<br />
Furnace Engineering e.V. (FOGI)<br />
can be seen in the common research<br />
hall of the fair quartet. The pavilion<br />
will certainly attract lively interest,<br />
since ultimately international competition<br />
in thermal process technology<br />
too will be <strong>de</strong>ci<strong>de</strong>d by the successful<br />
application of innovations.<br />
