PrefaceThis Annual Report documents the contribution of the Comenius Network DAF-SUE-DOST to the European dimension and innovation in the field of teaching and learning of German asa Foreign Language (GFL) in schools, universities, adult education and teacher training, coveringthe third year of the Network’s existence, from October 2005 to September 2006. This third yearwas the last year in which the Network’s activities were financially supported by the EuropeanCommission, so that this Annual Report will draw some conclusions from the work done so far.The introductory report by the coordinator and the web developers of the Network therefore describesthe Network activities in the third year as a natural continuation of preceding years, andemphasizes the role of the Internet and the Network’s web portal as a central means of communicationand dissemination. As the DAF-SUEDOST Network is both real and “virtual”, i.e. a webcommunity of language educators and experts in the field of GFL, the analysis of data on the useof the Network portal www.daf-network.org in Europe and beyond is considered important. At thesame time, the many other activities serving cooperation and networking within the COMENIUScommunityand in particular among European Projects in the field of language education, withspecial relevance to German as a Foreign Language, have to be mentioned.7
