Von der Apotheke zum Weltmarktführer - Vetter im ... - Vetter Pharma

In 1950, Helmut Vetter laid the foundation for what is now
the Vetter company by leasing the »Marien-Apotheke« on
Ravensburg’s Marktstrasse, a building already well known to
the community for the Madonna woodcarving that graced the
façade. He was the pharmacist there until 1958.
Although successful, a conventional life as a pharmacist
was not in the cards for Helmut Vetter. His entrepreneurial and
independent personality pulled him towards a larger goal with
farther reaching influence.
His creativity coupled with his passion for medicinal plants
led to the development and production of his gastrointestinal
remedy, »Ulcus« capsules, which later for legal reasons became
known as »Ullus ® « capsules. The success of the pharmacy’s
stomach gel capsule became evident as the demand for the
medication soon outgrew the production capabilities of the
Marien-Apotheke.

Packaging of the capsule, which took the form of the then
modern, round clear plastic containers, had become the recognized
and accepted packaging by customers. It was therefore
decided that additional production space was needed, so premises
on the Untere Breite Strasse were rented. The old machines
were replaced with custom-made ones that allowed for multiple
filling capabilities.
With all the expansion, Helmut Vetter saw an opportunity
to take the business in a new and larger direction: Mass marketing
to all pharmacies in the country. This led to the founding of
»Apotheker Vetter & Co. Arzneimittel GmbH Ravensburg« in
1953.
