Inspired by several trips to the United States, Helmut Vetter
developed the idea of the prefilled syringe – a concept he pursued
with full force and which in 1979 became the core of his
production program.
This step was of such far-reaching importance that a decision
was made in 1981 to make conventional contract manufacturing
the main business, with a heavy focus on syringe and sterile
technology complete with the necessary building and construction
requirements. With this milestone, which in respect to the
financing also demanded personal liability, the entrepreneur
Helmut Vetter led his mid-sized company in an international
direction destined to become the way of the future.
The concept of the prefilled syringe sparked the business and
a market demand for the syringe developed. Even investment
bankers, who had considered the small Vetter company and its
projects to be unsound investments, were convinced of Helmut
Vetter, his new ideas and their applications in the future.
Becton Dickinson was making similar strides in developing
a prefilled syringe system with similar capacity to what Vetter
had in mind. Vetter chose to work with the Becton Dickinson
system as it was more cost efficient and easier to work with
regarding the sterile technology than what Vetter had to date.
The conceptualization of the room followed, including such
necessary things as the media, i.e. air, water and steam and other
clean room requirements, as well as the planning of machinery,
capacity and packaging material.
