These two projects seamlessly became part of the company
strategy, as did the »Lyo 2000«, an automatic filling line system
for single- and double-chamber syringes installed at the Schützenstrasse
site. The two production lines in Langenargen and the
one on Schützenstrasse allowed Vetter to expand its customer
offerings at the highest technological level. The integration of
laboratory information management systems (LIMS) can also
be seen in the same light. The software solution significantly
optimized the quality management in the quality control laboratories.
Across all departments, all pharmaceutically relevant
parameters could now be collected and analyzed. The EDP
system was introduced in September 2000, after a nine-month
implementation phase. It marked an important step in the fulfilling
of the highest standards for safety and quality. Following
the launch of bundled services to the outside world, a gradual
organizational consolidation took place within the company.
During the course of its realignment, the company decided to
sell Apotheke Vetter. On January 1, 2000, pharmacist Matthias
Basler took over the pharmacy on Marienplatz in Ravensburg,
which is still run under the name Apotheke Vetter.
The transition into the new millennium was extraordinarily
successful for Vetter and opened great prospects for the future.
The positive development could also be measured by the growth
in personnel: At the end of 1999, the company boasted, for the
first time, 900 employees. By August 2000, Vetter broke its own
record when it welcomed its 1,000th employee and by the end
of 2001, Vetter was employing 1,100 people.
The year 2001 was entirely marked by the finishing work on
the VLA 3 and 4 production lines and the commissioning of the
»Lyo 2000« project. Transfer of production to these systems
allowed the company to implement a parallel supply source for
customers and offer even greater flexibility.

In addition to the company’s growing number of employees,
the fact that Vetter was listed in the top 100 of Germany’s most
innovative mid-sized companies further proved that reorientation
had been the right approach. Under the auspices of
Professor Hans-Jürgen Warncke, President of the Fraunhofer
Gesellschaft in Munich, the company was given honors for,
among others, the development of the Vetter Lyo-Ject ® dualchamber
prefilled syringe and for the creation of new jobs.
Further, the swift growth in aseptic filling that began at the
beginning of the new millennium, driven by new projects in
the biotech industry, showed once again that repositioning as
a full-service provider was the right move. In addition to the
filling of syringes with their product, customers increasingly
asked for support during the early development phases. So Vetter
Pharma-Fertigung (VPF) joined Vetter Injekt System (VIS) to
steadily expand its capacity.
2002 brought Vetter a double success in the form of its
innovative packaging idea: At the end of April, the company
received the German Packaging Prize for the prototypes of the
originality closure with needle protection for syringes with
glued-in needles (V-OVS NS ® ). The system represents the logical
continuation of the V-OVS ® , which became available for
prefilled syringes in series production at the beginning of that
year. As the year progressed, the V-OVS NS ® went on to win the
international WorldStar Packaging Award, the same one that
the Vetter Lyo-Ject ® dual-chamber prefilled syringe had already
won in 1997.
