As Vetter took on the production of prefilled pharmaceuticals,
it became clear that to achieve success it would have
to comply with FDA standards. The FDA, or Food and Drug
Administration, of the USA approves drugs for the public and
has the highest standards regarding drug manufacture. To
export drugs to the USA, one must have FDA approval of the
production facility.
Vetter Pharma-Fertigung GmbH & Co. KG gained FDA
approval for the first time in 1988 and successful inspections
have followed regularly ever since. This was the key to the US
market. The time and effort spent to develop the highest quality
standard from the beginning regarding pharmaceutical manufacturing
paid off in the form of FDA approval and contracts
with first-class global pharmaceutical companies.
The technological knowledge that developed with all of
this innovation led to the establishment of Vetter Injekt System
GmbH & Co. KG in 1989 in order to better concentrate the
knowledge and efforts. The goals of Vetter Injekt System
GmbH & Co. KG included technology transfer, the design and
construction of customized pharmaceutical production lines,
the validation of their product processes and the development
of novel medical application systems.
The 80s can be summarized by the transformation from a
conventional contract manufacturer of conventional forms of
administration to one that concentrated on prefilled syringes
and the accompanying aseptic technology and production. A
company restructuring with international orientation took
place as evidenced by the founding of the subsidiary Vetter
Pharma-Turm Inc. in New Jersey, USA, in 1983. Vetter Pharma-
Turm Inc. was set up to bring Vetter’s prefilled application systems
into the ever growing American, Canadian and Mexican
markets with their enormous potential.
