The next step in the optimization of business processes was
also launched with the introduction of a new planning software.
The resource planning program »mySAP ERP« was to
replace all the systems being used in the company so far. This
broad project covered all divisions with their data and involved
training over 1,000 employees in the use of the software. With
»mySAP ERP«, Vetter gave capital, resources, personnel and
operational process planning a new, resilient and effective
foundation. The project was completed at the beginning of
2008 with the successful company-wide implementation of the
software.
While the emergency power supply and steam production
systems and the laboratory buildings for chemical analysis were
being set up and the production lines were being certified at the
Ravensburg Vetter Süd (RVS), the company decided to pave the
way for expansion in the immediate vicinity of the new plant.
Following the purchase of the adjacent property in 2006, the
»Ortschaftsrat« (municipal council) approved the development
plan for the construction of a modern secondary packaging
plant on the grounds. The planning also included future extensions
of manufacturing capacity. The first construction phase
began in May 2007. It was to end in August 2008.
At the end of November 2006, Vetter had good reason to
celebrate: In a record three years, the RVS site was transferred
by the project team to the operations team. In a symbolic gesture,
the project team handed the production employees a key to
one of the world’s most modern pharmaceutical manufacturing
plants. Preparations were then made for market production at
the site. One important step on the way there was the inspection
by the »Regierungspräsidium« of Tübingen, which, as the
official agency in charge, gave RVS its manufacturing approval
at the beginning of January 2007.
During the course of 2007, it became amply clear just how
modern the technical equipment and conception of RVS actually
were. By the month of April, the site had already clinched the
most famous prize in the international pharmaceutical and biotech
industries. The plant was recognized in the category »Process
Innovation« as part of the »Facility of the Year Awards«.
This major honor is given to modern and pioneering production
facilities by three organizations: The ISPE (International Society
for Pharmaceutical Engineering), one of the largest associations
of experts in the industry, the trade fair INTERPHEX and the
trade magazine Pharmaceutical Processing. This state-of-the-art
facility also gained another award for its innovations, namely at
the awards ceremonies of the »European Outsourcing Awards«
in the same year.
