After the turn of the millennium, Vetter’s grew and changed
steadily. In accordance with the pharmacist Helmut Vetter’s
farsighted vision, the company went from being a contract
manufacturer to a full-service provider for innovative pharmaceutical
and biotechnology companies around the globe.
Even after Helmut Vetter’s death, the spirit of the founder
still lives on within the entire company. In the late 1990s,
while he was still at the helm, the company business managers
mapped out the »Mission 2000+« based on Vetter’s visions
and principles. The mission’s main objective was to develop the
company into a full-service provider. It was to become a partner
to innovative pharmaceutical manufacturers from all over the
world. The goal was for Vetter to offer its customers comprehensive
support in the aseptic filling of their drugs into end-user
friendly injection systems.
Looking back at the developments in the pharmaceutical
industry and at the growth of biotechnology around the turn of
the millennium, this proved to be a farsighted strategic direction.
From its relative infancy in the early 1990s, biotechnology
spent a decade adding more and more successes to its credit and
today it is one of the largest forces for growth within the industry.
Biotechnologically manufactured substances have opened
new doors in the treatment of such illnesses as cancer and
multiple sclerosis. Because most of these are parenteral drugs –
in other words they are only administered by injection – there
has been a steady growth in the demand for prefilled injection
systems for these substances. In setting itself up early on to provide
full service in the aseptic filling of syringes and cartridges,
Vetter was optimally prepared to profit from biotechnology’s
triumphal march.
