One example of the company’s future orientation was the
construction of the state-of-the-art Ravensburg Vetter Süd
(RVS) facility, which had been advancing rapidly since the fall of
2003. Once the work on access to infrastructure and excavation
was completed, the foundation stone was ceremoniously laid
for the project in mid-April. Around 90 guests from the political
and business sectors were invited to celebrate the construction
launch of the 7,000-square-meter production facility. By
October, the entire hall had been completed, so work could be
started on the interior and the technical equipment during the
winter months.
In 2004, the company invested again in the Langenargen site
because production, quality control and administration there
were reaching capacity due to the rapid increase in new orders.
A new chemical laboratory was built and a microbiological one
as well, which were both to begin operating in 2005. In addition,
new capacity for media and other systems, e. g. for visual
inspection, and offices were built in Hall 3 and 4. In planning
the final construction, a filling line for vials was included with
which Vetter aimed to expand its portfolio at a later date. It was
an important step, because vials are used during the early development
stages of a drug within the context of dosage studies.
In October 2004, the newly created Vetter Development
Service (VDS) began using its laboratories on Schützenstrasse.
No sooner had it opened, than the space was employed for the
first user studies with vial adapters. Thanks to this large area
filled with the most modern equipment, VDS had noticeably
more options available to work on customer projects and new
developments. The optimized background for development
projects was soon to make itself felt through greater customer
satisfaction and a growing number of incoming orders. Another
important step in the gearing-up towards full-service provider
status was completed.
Construction work on the Ravensburg Vetter Süd (RVS) site
continued at pace: In August 2005, installations for the media
and the clean rooms were completed. By December, the production
lines had been assembled and commissioned. This largescale
project therefore remained within its allotted schedule and
budget. Professional and integrated project management was
not least the reason for this success. After all, during the project,
the work of up to 80 Vetter staff members and about 400 other
employees from around 70 suppliers and service providers had
to be coordinated.
