In order to continue its successful growth on all levels and
its ability to deal with the ever faster changing pharmaceutical
market regarding partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, Vetter
introduced a process-oriented structure with cost-effectiveness
and customer satisfaction as the end goal. The structure was no
longer linear in form but rather a more encompassing structure
allowing greater influence and function within jobs and resulting
in more agile reactions and a more flexible organization
which is able to adjust to the changes in the market.
On June 15, 1998, Vetter’s Langenargen facility underwent
a week-long FDA inspection and passed. Given that at the time
there were 39 filling facilities worldwide and only 7 had FDA
approval, it is easy to understand the sheer importance of the
event for Vetter.
The FDA approval highlighted the teamwork of the group
as Vetter Injekt System GmbH & Co. KG had planned, built
and qualified the facility, and, in addition, it was the very first
inspection for Vetter Lyo-Ject ® dual-chamber prefilled syringes
and cartridges for Vetter Pharma-Fertigung GmbH & Co. KG.
Langenargen made it possible for Vetter’s customers such as
Hoechst Marion Roussel AG and Schwarz Pharma AG to reach
the largest pharmaceutical market in the US as well as other
countries.

In November 1998, the second FDA inspection followed,
but this time it was conducted at Vetter Pharma-Fertigung
GmbH & Co. KG in Ravensburg by inspectors of the CBER, a
department within the FDA responsible for active ingredients
that are gained biotechnologically or by means of genetic engineering.
They tested for viruses in the various stages of production.
This inspection, like the previous one, was successful.
1998 was also the year in which the new Vetter Logistics
Center on Holbeinstrasse in Ravensburg commenced operations
after one year of building. The Holbeinstrasse premises
contain 19 rows of 12-meter-high and 42-meter-long shelves to
store everything from raw materials to packaging materials and
finished products. Still further expansion of storage facilities is
planned.
For the purpose of streamlining and concentrating the
strengths, means and manpower of the Vetter Group, its logistics
activities were handed over in 1998 to the independent company
of Grieshaber, Transport und Logistik, Weingarten / Württemberg,
whose core business is logistics. This firm has been working
with the Vetter Group for 20 years and possesses extensive
experience in the pharmaceutical area through its operation of a
pharmaceutical warehouse in the city of Schlüchtern.
