»The first stages of a Japanese patent application are underway
for an automatic washer, particularly of hands, developed
by us, currently referred to as »handwasher«. Similar to the
»handwasher« roughly 12 patents and copyrights are pending
in the USA, Japan and Europe for Vetter handling trays (the
Vetter-Tray ® ) and syringe closure systems to protect the innovations
of the past four years.
The application of patents for a company that specializes in
a high-tech field such as pharmaceutical manufacture is one of
the most important and significant actions. This also includes
the establishment of trademarks such as the Vetter Lyo-Ject ® .
The trademark, unlike the patent, protects the product
from look-alikes that capitalize only on likeness to a successful
product, rather than content. The establishment of the Vetter
trademark occurred early.
Patents and trademarks need to be constantly monitored
and even defended should similar products be introduced on the
