Besides these changes, which were necessary organizational
measures to meet future challenges, the company – in the meantime
with a headcount of 1,500 – proceeded to make itself ready
for the upcoming markets by investing more in its facilities.
After a round of talks, which had been initiated back in 2002,
Vetter purchased a property in the Mariatal industrial zone in
Ravensburg. At the beginning of 2003, negotiations began for
the construction of a brand new, state-of-the-art facility. Eight
months later, the contract for the construction of the Ravensburg
Vetter Süd (RVS) site was ready to be signed. It was to be
the company’s largest investment ever.
Initial work on the 100-million-euro project began in
September 2003. Most of the production lines were developed
and implemented by Vetter’s own technicians. The first phase,
scheduled for completion by the end of 2006, comprised two
filling lines, one for dual-chamber systems and one combination
line for vials (used for injected medication) and cartridges.
Right from the start, two more lines were planned and the
supply technology was put in place for the most part so that a
production would not have to be interrupted while construction
work was underway.

Also at the end of 2003, an assembly machine for safety devices,
special protective devices to prevent needlestick injuries,
went into operation at the packaging facility on Holbeinstrasse.
This investment as well was clearly a part of the future-oriented
expansion of services since regulatory authorities were already
prescribing such systems for a growing number of products.
In order to meet the growing demand, an additional cartoning
machine was also installed to enlarge packaging capacity.
In addition, market production was started on the VLA
3 and VLA 4 lines in Langenargen following the successful
completion of official inspections.

The year 2003 was a busy one, and 2004 continued in the
same vein. By the spring, management had already presented a
revamped form of the company’s external image now including
growth and Vetter’s full-service approach. The new presence,
which had a modern design and a new advertising slogan:
»Pharma solutions for tomorrow, today,« emphasized Vetter’s
innovative strength and comprehensive service.
