Auf der Düsseldorfer Messe Interpack stellte Vetter 1984 die
Vetter Lyo-Ject ® erstmals der Öffentlichkeit vor
The Vetter Lyo-Ject ® is made public for the first time at the 1984
Interpack trade fair in Düsseldorf
The process, which must be carried out under sterile conditions,
naturally, takes about two days on average to complete,
depending on the product. Lyophilization has been used for
some years, but only with vials.
The Vetter Lyo-Ject ® is innovative in two ways. First of all,
the syringe is lyophilizable and has a special closure system. Secondly,
the lyophilizer was redesigned so that the syringes could
be lyophilized and closed while inside. Trials with this system
have been running since 1984, using a small in-house lyophilizer.
Since then, a number of pilot fills have been performed for
customers, stability tests are in progress and improvements to
the process are being made.
The Vetter Lyo-Ject ® attracted much attention at trade fairs
at the time:
· Interpack, Düsseldorf (1984)
· Achema, Frankfurt (1985)
· PDA Annual Meeting, Philadelphia (1985)
The interest expressed by first-rate international pharmaceutical
companies in Vetter Lyo-Ject ® , especially in the USA
and Europe, is significant.«
From the beginning the market’s response to Vetter
Lyo-Ject ® was encouraging. The banks however, were skeptical
of financing the project of a mid-sized company more suited
for a large company. Support did come from the Ministry of
Economic Affairs in Stuttgart in the form of a loan for DM 15
million (EUR 7.67 million today) to build a pilot facility that
was to be completed in 1987.
