In the year 2000, the renaming of the US sales subsidiary
Pharma-Turm Inc., headquartered in Yardley, Pennsylvania,
became yet another decisive step in the strategic re-positioning
of the company as a full-service provider. In order to improve its
position in the USA, the world’s single largest pharmaceutical
market, the company was bound more closely to Vetter, which
was also expressed in the change of name to Vetter Pharma-
Turm Inc. (VPTI).
Vetter’s investments and construction plans in the year
2002 must be seen in light of its comprehensive services for its
customers. The company expanded its microbiological facilities
on Schützenstrasse by adding a new sterile laboratory and while
doing so, it reinforced its know-how in the processing of biotechnologically
produced active substances. The company created
additional capacities by adding a new chemistry laboratory
in the Vetter Laboratory Building (VLB). The two Vetter office
buildings (VOB 1 and VOB 2) also created more space for the
administration and development departments. Furthermore,
Vetter invested in a state-of-the-art cooling system for the filling
lines on Schützenstrasse. By early March, a new freezer room
had started operating in the Vetter Logistics Center (VLZ).
Between 2003 and 2004, Vetter conducted a comprehensive
restructuring program to conclude the strategic reorientation
that ultimately proved itself through a growing number of
orders, more production capacity and an increasing headcount.
This involved, for example, unifying the separate companies
under a single name: Vetter Pharma-Fertigung GmbH & Co.
KG (VPF). Vetter Injekt System (VIS) merged with VPF under
new management at the end of 2003 in order to address the
growing demand for services in VPF’s development and commercial
production areas. At the same time, the division for the
construction of aseptic facilities was entirely integrated into
VPF. Project planning and construction of production facilities
for other companies was discontinued.
Another business area that was terminated during this
period was the aseptic filling of liquids like eyedrops and nasal
sprays. The main reason for this was economic, because the
division’s profits had declined owing to the cheaper competition
from Asia.
From then on, three business managers led the company’s
operations. One external sign of the modified organizational
form was the move of management and most of the administrative
departments to the new administration building (RVV) on
Eywiesenstrasse in Ravensburg. Since August 2003, the eightstory
office building has housed around 160 employees from
various administrative areas.
