LADTBANK, CULTS, COLLESSIE, BALMALCOLM, AND PITLESSIE.<br />
KETTLE is a parisli and village in <strong>the</strong> county <strong>of</strong><br />
Fife, seven miles from Cupar, five from Auclitermuchty,<br />
one mile from Lady bank, its post town, and<br />
is a station on <strong>the</strong> <strong>North</strong> British Eailway. The<br />
village is well supphed with gas, <strong>the</strong> works <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
compp^ny being half-a-mile distant, which also supphes<br />
Ladybank. The principal branches <strong>of</strong> trade<br />
carried on here a,re <strong>the</strong> manufacture <strong>of</strong> linen and<br />
reed and camb making. The parish churchy which<br />
was erected in 1832, is a handsome building with asquare<br />
tower j <strong>the</strong>re is also a United Presbyterian<br />
church. The halmet <strong>of</strong> Balmalcolm is about half-amile<br />
from <strong>the</strong> village.<br />
CULTS is a parish situated about three miles from<br />
Ladybank, and two from Kettle, being one mile and a<br />
half broad, and two and a half long. Coal and lime<br />
freestone abound in <strong>the</strong> parish, which is well cultivated.<br />
Crawford Priory, <strong>the</strong> seat <strong>of</strong> Lord Glasgow,<br />
is in tills district.<br />
PITLESSIE is a small village in <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong><br />
Cults, situated oil <strong>the</strong> road between Cupar and Kirkcaldy,<br />
two miles from Kettle, three from Ladybank,<br />
and live from Cupar. Weaving is <strong>the</strong> principal occupation<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> inhabitants. There is an Established<br />
Church, also a board school.<br />
COLLESSIE is a parish eight miles in length and<br />
five in breadth ; it is three miles from Ladybank, and<br />
six from CrjiDar, lying to <strong>the</strong> north <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong><br />
Kettle. The <strong>North</strong> British Railway has a station<br />
here. The parish church is a neat building ; <strong>the</strong>re is<br />
also a board shool.<br />
LADYBANK is a village in <strong>the</strong> parish, <strong>of</strong> CoUessie,<br />
and ia -<strong>the</strong> post town for this part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> county,<br />
being a junction on <strong>the</strong> <strong>North</strong> British Railway. The<br />
principal trade <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> town is <strong>the</strong> manufacture <strong>of</strong><br />
hnen and malting. The Free Chui-ch, which was<br />
opened in April, 1876, is a handsome building, and<br />
will seat 500 people ; <strong>the</strong>re is also a board school.<br />
The hamlet <strong>of</strong> Giifordtown is about a mile from <strong>the</strong><br />
village.<br />
