ROSEHEARTY,<br />

PITSLIGO, PITULLIE, AND SANDHAVEN.<br />

EOSEHEAETY is a village in <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong> Pitsligo,<br />

18 miles east from Banff, and about five miles<br />

west from Fraserburgh. The harbour, which is<br />

about to be considerably improved by <strong>the</strong> extension<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Portrie Pier and o<strong>the</strong>r works, will afford increased<br />

protection and accommodation for <strong>the</strong> fleet<br />

<strong>of</strong> boats engaged in <strong>the</strong> herring fishery, and for<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r vessels frequenting <strong>the</strong> harbour. Fish curing<br />

is carried on extensively here, and <strong>the</strong>re is a branch<br />

bank in <strong>the</strong> village. The imports are chiefly timber,<br />

coal, and salt, and <strong>the</strong> exports fish and grain. The<br />

places <strong>of</strong> worshij) are an Estabfished, a Free, and an<br />

United Presbyterian Church, and <strong>the</strong>re is a public<br />

school in <strong>the</strong> village.<br />

PITSLIGO is a parish situated on <strong>the</strong> sea coast,<br />

between Fraserburgh and Aberclour, commencing<br />

about two miles west <strong>of</strong> Kinnaird Head. The only<br />

object <strong>of</strong> interest in <strong>the</strong> parish is Pitsligo Castle, an<br />

ancient structure, and formerly <strong>the</strong> seat <strong>of</strong> Lord<br />

Pitsligo. The inhabitants are chiefly engaged in<br />

fishina', and o<strong>the</strong>rs in agriculture.<br />

SANDHAVEN and PITULLIE are villages in <strong>the</strong><br />

above parish, situated between Eosehearty Point and<br />

Kinnaird Head. Fish curing is carried on to some<br />

extent in both villages.<br />
