PLACES OF WOESHIP AND THEIE MINISTEES.<br />
AUCHTEEDEREAN is a parish in <strong>the</strong> western<br />
part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> county, bounded by Beath, Ballingry,<br />
Abbotshall, Auchtertool, and Kinglassie. There is a<br />
church <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Establishment and a board school at<br />
<strong>the</strong> hamlet <strong>of</strong> Auchterderran.<br />
CAEDENDEN is a small village in <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong><br />
Auchterderran, and about two miles from Lochgelly.<br />
It is a station on <strong>the</strong> Stirling and Danfermiine branch<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>North</strong> British Eailway.<br />
BEATH is a parish containing <strong>the</strong> villages <strong>of</strong><br />
Cowdenbeath, Kelty, and Lassodie, and is bounded by<br />
Dunfermline, Balhngry, Auchterderran, Cleish,<br />
Aberdour, and Dalgetty. Several collieries are in<br />
active operation, and give employment to most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
inhabitants.<br />
COWDENBEATH is a large village in <strong>the</strong> above<br />
parish, consisting chiefly <strong>of</strong> one long street, and is<br />
lighted with gas. There is a station here, on <strong>the</strong><br />
Stirhng and Dunfermline branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>North</strong><br />
British Eailway. The places <strong>of</strong> worship are a church<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Establishment and a Free church ; <strong>the</strong> former<br />
is situated about a mile from <strong>the</strong> village. There is<br />
also a board school here.<br />
KELTY is a village in <strong>the</strong> same parish, and about<br />
three miles from Cowdenbeath. It is also a station<br />
on <strong>the</strong> Kinross branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>North</strong> British Eailway.<br />
There is a Free chiirch and a board school in <strong>the</strong><br />
village. The Fife Coal Co.'s works are situated here,<br />
and afford employment to a large portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
inhabitants.<br />
LASSODIE is also a small vUlage in Beath parish.<br />
There is a Free chm-ch and board school here. There<br />
are several colheries in <strong>the</strong> district.<br />
BALLINGEY is a parish and small village, <strong>the</strong><br />
latter situated about three miles from Lochgelly, its<br />
post town. There is a church <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Estabhshment<br />
and a board school here ; and several large collieries<br />
in <strong>the</strong> neighbourhood. Lumiiliinnans is a small<br />
mining callage in <strong>the</strong> same parish.<br />

—Letters arrive from Edinburgh, and <strong>the</strong> South, and<br />
Perth, Dundee, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>North</strong> at 8.45 a.m. and 6.30<br />
p.na., and are despatched to <strong>the</strong>se places at 6.45 a.m.<br />
and 4.20 p.m. Letters from DuiSermhne arrive at<br />
