OLD MELDRUM,<br />
BOUETIE AND TAEVES.<br />
OLD MELDEUM (or Meldrum) is a parish, a<br />
burgh <strong>of</strong> barony, and a market town, <strong>the</strong> latter situated<br />
on <strong>the</strong> crest <strong>of</strong> an eminence commanding extensive<br />
views <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> adjacent dehghtfuUy picturesque<br />
portions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> county. The town is distant 5 miles<br />
from Inverurie, 18 miles (by road) from Aberdeen,<br />
and 27 from Banff. A branch line from Inverurie<br />
connects it with <strong>the</strong> main line <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Great <strong>North</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Scotland</strong> Eailway system. The principal object <strong>of</strong><br />
interest in <strong>the</strong> neighbourhood is Meldrum House, <strong>the</strong><br />
seat <strong>of</strong> B.C. Urquhart, Esq. ; it is in <strong>the</strong> antique<br />
style <strong>of</strong> architecture, and is surrounded by fine<br />
scenery. In addition to a good retail trade <strong>the</strong> principal<br />
branches <strong>of</strong> business are an extensive distillery,<br />
a brewery and agricultural implement works. There<br />
is an Established and a Free Church and one each for<br />
Presbyterians and Episcopahans. Extensive wellbuilt<br />
school premises have been recently erected to<br />
supply <strong>the</strong> educational requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> neighbourhood.<br />

BOUETIE is a parish situated between Meldrum<br />
and Inverurie, in length it is four miles and in<br />
breadth two. Agriculture is <strong>the</strong> chief employment <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> inhabitants. There is an Established Church and<br />
a board school.<br />
TAEVES is a parish about nine miles in length and<br />
six in breadth, bounded on <strong>the</strong> north by Methlick<br />
and on <strong>the</strong> west by Old Meldrum from which it is<br />
distant 5^ miles. The parish is a flat surface on <strong>the</strong><br />
general outhne and <strong>the</strong> soil is for <strong>the</strong> most part fertile.<br />
The nearest railway station is at Old Meldrum.<br />
Post Office, Old Meldrum, Wm. Den, postmaster.<br />
Letters arrive from all parts at 8 a.m. and 12.30 noon,<br />
and are despatched north at 10.10 a.m. and to north<br />
and south at 12.5 noon and 5 p.m. On Sunday letters<br />
arrive at 8 a.m. and are despatched at 8.50 a.m.<br />
