DRUMOAK, KINNELLAR, NEWHILLS, PETERCULTEE, SKENE, BLACKBURN, BUXBUilN,<br />
ECHT is a parish containing <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> its<br />
name, situated 12 miles west <strong>of</strong> Aberdeen and about<br />
8^ miles from <strong>the</strong> Banchory station, on <strong>the</strong> Deeside<br />
section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> G. N. <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong> Railway. The parish<br />
is about five miles in length and <strong>the</strong> same in breadth,<br />
<strong>the</strong> greater portion <strong>of</strong> wliich is under cultivation.<br />
Dunecht House, one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> seats <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Earl <strong>of</strong> Crawford<br />
and B'alcarres, is <strong>the</strong> only residence <strong>of</strong> note. The<br />
places <strong>of</strong> worship are <strong>the</strong> Established and Free<br />
Churches. Fairs are held on <strong>the</strong> first Monday in<br />
every month, with] <strong>the</strong> following exceptions—when<br />
<strong>the</strong>y are held on <strong>the</strong> second Monday in May, <strong>the</strong> day<br />
before Michaelmas fair in October, and <strong>the</strong> second<br />
Tuesday in November.<br />
DEUMOAK parish is about four miles in length<br />
and <strong>the</strong> same in breadth, and is intersected by <strong>the</strong><br />
Deeside hue, on which <strong>the</strong>re are two stations. The<br />
chief portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parish is in Aberdeenshire, and<br />
<strong>the</strong> remainder in <strong>the</strong> adjoining county <strong>of</strong> Kincardine.<br />
The parish is situated about ten miles from Aberdeen,<br />
its post town.<br />
KINELLAR is an agricultural parish about eight<br />
miles from Aberdeen. It contains <strong>the</strong> pleasant<br />
village <strong>of</strong> Blackburn, situated two miles from<br />
<strong>the</strong> Kinaldie railway station, on <strong>the</strong> Great <strong>North</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Scotland</strong> main line. The liigh road from Aberdeen<br />
to Inverness passes through <strong>the</strong> parish.<br />
NEWHILLS is a parish situated five miles from<br />
Aberdeen, its post town.<br />
BUXBURN is a thriving village in <strong>the</strong> parish, and<br />
is a station on <strong>the</strong> main fine <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Great <strong>North</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Scotland</strong> Railway. Messrs. Alexander Ptrie & Sons<br />
paper mills at Stoneywood in this parish are very<br />
extensive. Messrs. C. Davidson & Sons, Limited,<br />
Mugiemoss Works, are also paper makers and paper<br />
bag manufacturers on a large scale. There are<br />
several granite quarries and corn r rills in <strong>the</strong> parish.<br />
The places <strong>of</strong> worship are <strong>the</strong> Established, <strong>the</strong> Free,<br />
and <strong>the</strong> Episcopal Chiu'ches,<br />
AUCHMILL, AND STONETWOOD.<br />
PETERCULTER is a parish about eight miles in<br />
length and six in breadth, is situated on <strong>the</strong> banks <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Dee, and intersected by <strong>the</strong> Deeside fine <strong>of</strong> railway,<br />
on which <strong>the</strong>re are stations at Murtle, Milltimber,<br />
and Culter, in <strong>the</strong> parish ; <strong>the</strong> latter is 7f<br />
miles from Aberdeen, its post town. Paper making<br />
is extensively carried on here by <strong>the</strong> Culter Mills<br />
Paper Co., Limited, at <strong>the</strong>n- works nea-r <strong>the</strong> 'Julter<br />
station. There is also a manufactory for woollen<br />
goods. A portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> j)arish'is under cultivation<br />
<strong>the</strong> surface <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> remainder is rocky, marshy, and<br />
o<strong>the</strong>rwise unfitted for agricultural purposes. Established<br />
and Free Churches in <strong>the</strong> parish.<br />
SKENE parish is about eight miles from Aberdeen,<br />
its post town, and about <strong>the</strong> same distance from <strong>the</strong><br />
Kintore Junction station, on <strong>the</strong> G. N. <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong><br />
fine. The parish, eight miles long and four broad, is<br />
agricultural, with <strong>the</strong> exception <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> large mill <strong>of</strong><br />
Messrs. Alex. Hadden & Sons, woollen manufacturers.<br />
EstabHshed and Free Churches in <strong>the</strong> parish. A fair<br />
is held on <strong>the</strong> Tuesday before Easter.<br />
