<strong>with</strong> eyes that are like <strong>the</strong> lotus, have never to meet<br />
<strong>with</strong> any discomfiture.<br />
Thus ends <strong>the</strong> 149th chapter consisting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Divine<br />
Hymn, <strong>Sahasranama</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Vishnu</strong>, in <strong>the</strong> dialogue between<br />
Bhlshma and Yudhishthira in <strong>the</strong> AnusMsanika Parva in<br />
<strong>the</strong> Mahabharata. 1<br />
' Lord <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Universe ' and o<strong>the</strong>r epi<strong>the</strong>ts indicate<br />
that <strong>the</strong> reciters <strong>of</strong> this hymn become virtuous, and have<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir objects and actions fulfilled, as <strong>the</strong>y worship <strong>the</strong> Lord<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Universe. Vy&sa says : " The S'rutis say that any<br />
act carelessly performed, any irregular procedure in sacrifices,<br />
is rendered perfect by meditating upon <strong>Vishnu</strong>."<br />
" If one praises <strong>the</strong> Creator <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Universe <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
same ardour <strong>with</strong> which he would praise a rich man to get<br />
wealth from him, would<br />
bonds (<strong>of</strong> Samsara) ?<br />
he not be delivered from <strong>the</strong><br />
"<br />
This commentary <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sahasranama</strong>, which brings happiness<br />
to all and was written in accordance <strong>with</strong> S'ruti and<br />
reason, is dedicated to <strong>the</strong> feet <strong>of</strong> Hari.<br />
Thus ends <strong>the</strong> Bhashya <strong>of</strong> S'ri S'ankaracharya, <strong>the</strong><br />
Teacher <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Paraina Hatnsa Sanyasins, <strong>the</strong> student <strong>of</strong><br />
Oovinda Bhagavatpada.<br />
