Upon completion, the DreamWorks Animation Campus would include approximately
1,400 employees. Using employee based solid waste generation rates found in the Program
EIR, the proposed project would generate approximately 42,700 pounds of solid waste per day.
As with the Redevelopment Plan, the project's potentially adverse effects, when considered
alone, would be below the significance threshold with the implementation of AB 939 and with
the utilization of the mitigation measures described in the Program EIR.
Although solid waste generation for the project is for the most part included in the
Redevelopment Area generation projections, the increment of solid waste generation attributable
to the difference between the project, as proposed, and average Restricted Industrial density
assumptions in the Program EIR is also identified for comparison with the Redevelopment Plan
as a whole. Solid waste generation of a theoretical project on the original 12.21 acre (per
County Assessor's records) site using the average Restricted Industrial use floor area ratio, as
identified in Section 2, Project Overview, of this document would be approximately 34,029
pounds per day, or 8,671 pounds per day less than the proposed project. Compared with the
1,094,000 pounds per day of solid waste projected for existing and proposed Redevelopment
Plan development, the project increment represents an insignificant 0.08 percent increase in
overall solid waste generation.
MITIGATION MEASURES
The following mitigation measures were identified for this issue in the Program EIR, and
may be applicable to this project to meet the goals of AB 939. 98
1. The Developer/Participant will incorporate applicable measures of the City's
Source-Reduction and Recycling Element in project approvals including:
• The project shall submit a Recycling Plan. The Plan shall include the following
elements: A site plan of the proposed area shall identify location(s) of the
recycling enclosure(s) relative to the facility or complex.
• Identify all materials to be collected and recycled.
