Traffic between machines on different networks or subnets requires routing.
Each computer must be told where to direct traffic it cannot deliver directly; this
“default gateway” is generally a router which allows access to distant subnets.
A “default route” (route of last-resort) is used to specify the IP address where
packets are forwarded that have no explicit route. It is usually the IP address of
a router (for example, a Cisco box) that will forward packets to your Internet
Service Provider (ISP).
Note: For more detailed information on routing, please refer to “Routing options” in
the Sidewinder G2 Startup Guide.
On the Sidewinder G2, this default route is typically defined while using the
Quick Start Wizard during the initial configuration process. Once it is set it
rarely needs to change; hence it is also known as a static route. However, if
your network configuration should change, you may find it necessary to
change this static route. You can do this using the Admin Console. To change a
static route, select Services Configuration > Routing > Static. The Static
window appears.
The Static window contains a static route definition table that lists all of the
route definitions. To modify the static routes currently defined on the
Sidewinder G2, follow the steps below.
Note: Interface routes cannot be modified or deleted.
