Chapter 2: Administrator’s Overview
Admin Console basics
This section describes how to start the Admin Console, and explains how to
add a new Sidewinder G2. It also provides general guidelines for using the
Admin Console. For information on installing the Admin Console software on a
Windows PC, see the Sidewinder G2 Startup Guide.
Note: This version of the Admin Console supports backwards compatibility.
Therefore, if you have a current version of the Admin Console installed, you can still
connect to a remote Sidewinder G2 that is running at 6.0.0.00 or higher, and the
window will automatically update to display the earlier version of the Admin
Console. You will also receive online help that is appropriate to the version at which
the Sidewinder G2 is running.
Starting and exiting the Admin Console
The Admin Console can only access Sidewinder G2 if Sidewinder G2 is
configured to allow secure sessions for the burb in which the Admin Console’s
workstation resides. By default, access is enabled on the Sidewinder G2’s
internal burb. For information on changing Admin Console access on an active
Sidewinder G2, see “Configuring Admin Console access” on page 91.
Starting the Admin Console
To start the Admin Console on a Windows workstation, do one of the following:
• Click the Sidewinder G2 Admin Console icon
located on the desktop.
• Select Start > Programs > Secure Computing > Sidewinder G2 Admin
Console 3.0 > Firewall Admin Console.
If you are starting the Admin Console for the first time, you will need to add the
Sidewinder G2(s) that you want to manage. See “Adding a Sidewinder G2 to
the Admin Console” on page 20 for information on creating a new Sidewinder
G2.
Exiting the Admin Console
To exit the Admin Console, do one of the following:
Important: If you have any active connections when you exit the Admin Console,
those connections, as well as any unsaved changes, will be lost. You will not be
prompted to save before exiting.
• In the File menu, select Exit.
• Simultaneously press Alt+x.
• Click the icon in the upper right corner of the Admin Console window.
