Restarting or shutting down the system

3 In the Shutdown Time field, select the shutdown time from the following
options.
• Immediately—The system will shutdown immediately when you click
Execute Shutdown.
• Delay Shutdown for—The shutdown will be delayed for the amount of
time specified in the Hours and Minutes fields. You can enter values in
these fields that will delay the shutdown for up to 24 hours and 59
minutes.
4 Click Execute Shutdown to implement the shutdown.
Any connections to the Admin Console will be lost when the Sidewinder G2
shuts down. New connections to the Sidewinder G2 will not be allowed
once the shutdown process has been executed.
Rebooting or shutting down using a command line
interface
The shutdown command reboots or shuts down the system from a command
line interface. Use this command to indicate how and when you want the
Sidewinder G2 to shut down.
The shutdown time can be specified as:
• now (for immediate shutdown)
• a number of minutes (If you are specifying the number of minutes, you must
include a plus (+) sign in front of the minutes.)
• an exact date and time ([[[yy]mm]dd]hhmm])
Use the command in the following formats to shut down or reboot the system:
• To restart the system in the Operational kernel, enter the following
command at a Sidewinder G2 command prompt:
shutdown -r [time]
For example, shutdown -r now would immediately reboot Sidewinder G2
into its Operational kernel.
• To restart the system to the Administrative kernel, enter the following
command at a Sidewinder G2 command prompt:
shutdown -g [time]
For example, shutdown -g +120 would reboot Sidewinder G2 into its
Administrative kernel in two hours (120 minutes).
Important: Remember that while Sidewinder G2 is in the Administrative
kernel, it is offline and does not pass traffic. You must connect a keyboard and
monitor to the Sidewinder G2 before you can administer the system in the
Administrative kernel. See “Powering up the system to the Administrative
kernel” on page 636 for details.
