The Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance is a network security gateway that
allows you to connect your organization to the Internet while protecting your
network from unauthorized users and network attackers. It combines an
application-layer firewall, IPSec VPN capabilities and clientless VPN access,
anti-spam/anti-fraud and anti-virus/anti-spyware filtering engines, and SSL
decryption in to one Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliance,
designed to offer centralized perimeter security.
The Sidewinder G2 provides a high level of security by using SecureOS®, an
enhanced UNIX operating system that employs Secure Computing’s patented
Type Enforcement® security technology. SecureOS removes the inherent
security risks often found in a network application running on non-security
focused commercial operating systems, resulting in superior network security.

The Sidewinder G2 prevents host identification masquerading (IP spoofing),
making it very difficult for attackers to infiltrate your protected network(s). The
Sidewinder G2 also offers advanced authentication and encryption software.
Encryption allows authorized users on the Internet access to your protected
network without fear of attackers eavesdropping (IP sniffing) or stealing access
credentials and other valuable information.
The Sidewinder G2 allows public services such as e-mail, a public file archive
(FTP), and World Wide Web (Web) access while protecting the other
computers on your protected network(s). The Sidewinder G2 also provides
powerful configuration options that allow you to control access by your
employees to almost any publicly available service on the Internet.
A minimum Sidewinder G2 configuration supports two network interfaces.
However, you can add additional network interfaces for a total of up to 64
network connections. Sidewinder G2 can be used as a gateway between your
internal network and the Internet, or between any networks with different
security needs. Figure 1 shows Sidewinder G2 protecting a company’s internal
network.
