Generic Sybase SQL proxy. Generic UNIX syslog protocol. Allows users to use T.120 applications such as Microsoft’s NetMeeting application. Allows users on one side of your Sidewinder G2 transparent access to Telnet servers on the other side of your Sidewinder G2. Allows users on your network with WAIS client software connections to a database service called WAIS. Allows users to send the UNIX whois command from a terminal. whois looks up records in the Network Information Center. Supports Microsoft Windows Network Services. Allows UNIX-based X Windows sessions to pass through the Sidewinder G2. For instance, an X Windows process running on one terminal could send screen output through the Sidewinder G2 to another window at a different terminal. While redirecting X Windows is a common practice at larger UNIX sites with X Windows environments, X Windows is not a secure application. Using this proxy strictly for sending X Windows traffic through the Sidewinder G2 is not recommended for most sites. However, if the Sidewinder G2 has been configured as a Sidewinder G2 between two networks, both of which are within your organization (sometimes called “inter-walling”), the Xscreen0 proxy might not pose serious security hazards. This depends on the nature of the site’s two networks. Supports the X500 directory server. 253
