The Reconfigure Mail window allows you to set your initial mail configuration or
reconfigure your existing mail configuration. Follow the steps below.
Caution: If you manually edited any sendmail configuration files, changing your
mail configuration in the Reconfigure Mail window will overwrite the changes you
made. Also, if there is e-mail in the queue directory for a burb that will not be
specified in the new mail configuration, the e-mail will be deleted.
1 In the New SMTP Mode drop-down list, select the mail configuration mode
you want to configure. The current mode is listed in the Current SMTP
Mode field. The following options are available:
• Transparent—Use this option when you want to pass mail by proxy
through the Sidewinder G2. If you select this option, only the files
necessary to send administrative messages (including Sidewinder G2generated
alerts, messages, and logs) will be configured. The SMTP
proxy is automatically enabled.
• Secure Split SMTP Servers (Sidewinder-hosted)—Use this option to
use the Sidewinder G2’s hosted sendmail server(s). This configuration
allows you to take advantage of additional sendmail features, including
header stripping, spam and fraud control, mail routing and aliases, and
masquerading. For more information on configuring these features, see
“Other sendmail features” on page 365. The sendmail server is
automatically enabled.
2 In the Internal SMTP Burb field, select the burb in which your site’s internal
SMTP server resides.
3 In the Internal SMTP Mail Server field, type the fully qualified name of your
site’s internal SMTP server.
4 Click the Save icon in the toolbar (or click Apply if you are accessing this
window from the Server window) to reconfigure your mail mode. A
confirmation window will appear when the reconfiguration process is
complete.
5 [Conditional] If you accessed Reconfigure Mail from the Servers window,
click Close to return to the sendmail server Configuration tab.
6 Select Policy Configuration > Rules and create or modify the necessary
proxy rules:
• If you selected Transparent, use the SMTP proxy in your mail rule.
• If you selected Secure Split SMTP Servers, use the SMTP server in
your mail rule. Set the Destination Burb to All.
The Sidewinder G2 now has a new mail configuration.
