Chapter 3: General System Tasks Configuring Admin Console access 92 Figure 41: Remote Administration tab About the Remote Administration tab This window allows you to enable management for the Sidewinder G2 using the Admin Console. When enabled, users with administrative privileges will be able to use the Admin Console connect to and administer the Sidewinder G2. You can enable Admin Console management on a per burb basis. For example, if you enable Admin Console management for Burb A but not Burb B, only those users with access to the interfaces assigned to Burb A will be able to administer the Sidewinder G2 using an Admin Console. Note: For information on configuring the Firewall Certificate tab, see “Configuring and displaying firewall certificates” on page 424. Follow the steps below to configure Admin Console management. Note: During the initial configuration, the Quick Start Wizard enables Admin Console access on the internal burb. 1 In the Allow Secure Sessions From list, select the burbs that will allow administration access from a Windows system. Connections to the burbs in this list are encrypted using SSL. 2 In the Secure Ports field, specify the range of ports on which secure sessions will be allowed. Note: See “NSS regulation of valid ports for the Admin Console” on page 15 for details on selecting valid ports. 3 Click the Save icon to save your changes. To configure the SSL certificate fields for the Admin Console, see the following section.
About the SSL certificate fields for the Admin Console Configuring the Sidewinder G2 to use a UPS Chapter 3: General System Tasks Configuring the Sidewinder G2 to use a UPS The Admin Console provides secure access to the Sidewinder G2 using the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. The SSL protocol requires the use of certificates by both the client and the server when creating the secure connection. Follow the steps below to configure the SSL certificate for the Admin Console. Important: Secure Computing recommends assigning a new certificate to the Admin Console before using the Sidewinder G2 in an operational environment. A default SSL certificate is initially assigned to the Admin Console. When using the Sidewinder G2 in an operational environment, however, it is highly recommended that you assign a different certificate to the Admin Console. For more information, see “Assigning new certificates for Admin Console and synchronization services” on page 430. To assign a new SSL certificate to the Admin Console, select the certificate from the Certificate drop-down list. Only self-signed, RSA/DSA certificates that are defined in Services Configuration > Certificate Management in the Firewall Certificates tab are displayed in this field. The Firewall Certificates tab is used to define a new certificate for use by the Admin Console. After creating the new certificate you can return to the UI Access Control window and assign the new certificate to the Admin Console. Many organizations connect the Sidewinder G2 to an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). This allows the Sidewinder G2 to continue to be operational if a power outage occurs. If the power outage is long enough, however, the battery in the UPS will begin to fail. To avoid an uncontrolled shutdown, you can configure the Sidewinder G2 to initiate an orderly shutdown before the UPS fails. The Sidewinder G2 is much more likely to restart in a good condition following an orderly shutdown than from an uncontrolled shutdown. Configuring the Sidewinder G2 to use a UPS To configure the Sidewinder G2 to use a UPS, select Services Configuration > Servers and select upsd in the list of server names. Click the Configuration tab. The following window appears. 93
