779 Edward Augustus <strong>Lewis</strong>, was born in St.,<br />

Louis, Mo.,* Feb. 22, 1820, <strong>and</strong> died there Sept. 21, 1889.<br />

He was a lawyer by pr<strong>of</strong>ession, presiding Judge <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Supreme Court <strong>of</strong> Missouri <strong>and</strong> Chief Justice <strong>of</strong> the St.<br />

Louis Court <strong>of</strong> Appeals for 12 years ; also editor <strong>of</strong> the<br />

St. Louis Intelligencer. He married Sept. 9, 1845, Parthenia<br />

A. daughter <strong>of</strong> Walter L. Bransford <strong>of</strong> Kentucky.<br />

Mar. 23, 1808, <strong>and</strong> died Aug. 31, 1874. He married<br />

at Ashby, Mass., Oct. 12, 1835, Harriet Prescott Adams.<br />
