32 Joseph <strong>Lewis</strong>, born in Swansea, June 6, 1672,<br />

was brought up with the family <strong>of</strong> <strong>his</strong> stepfather, Obadiah<br />

Jenkins, in Maiden. After <strong>his</strong> marriage, in 1700, to<br />

Hannah Jones <strong>of</strong> Maiden, he settled in Woburn, in that<br />

part which was set <strong>of</strong>f to Wilmington, Sept. 25, 1730, on<br />

or near the Billerica line. In 1733 he was <strong>of</strong> Wilming-<br />

ton. He disposed <strong>of</strong> <strong>his</strong> father's l<strong>and</strong>s in Swansea, for<br />

£6, to Thomas <strong>Lewis</strong> (23) <strong>of</strong> Swansea (Bristol Co. Deeds,<br />

Vol. 14, f. 34). He also sold to John Luther <strong>of</strong> Swansea,<br />

l<strong>and</strong> at Mattapoisett (Middlesex Co. Deeds, Vol. 99, f.<br />

668). These deeds identify him with <strong>his</strong> father Joseph<br />

(6).<br />

His sister Sybil was an heir to her gr<strong>and</strong>mother, <strong>and</strong><br />

they both were heirs <strong>of</strong> Obadiah Jenkins, Jr., a half-<br />

brother. Joseph <strong>Lewis</strong> died in Wilmington, July 25, 1755,<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>his</strong> will, made July 1, 1751, gives to <strong>his</strong> wife Hannah<br />

£7 lawful money, with all my provisions <strong>and</strong> live stock to<br />

improve <strong>and</strong> dispose <strong>of</strong> during her life, the dwelling house<br />

<strong>and</strong> barn, <strong>and</strong> all household goods <strong>of</strong> all sorts. Thomas<br />

Pearson, a son-in-law, is made executor, <strong>and</strong> ordered to<br />

fence l<strong>and</strong>s, get in hay, make cider, <strong>and</strong> put it in the cel-<br />

lar, care for cows, winter <strong>and</strong> summer, drive <strong>and</strong> fetch<br />

them, provide a horse for meetings, etc. ; also 20 bushels
