had <strong>his</strong> house <strong>and</strong> papers searched, <strong>and</strong> was ordered to<br />

leave, which he did. Was chaplain in the army during the<br />

Revolution; Justice <strong>of</strong> the Peace; Representative in the Mas-<br />

sachusetts Legislature, 1784 to 1790, 1794, 1795; <strong>and</strong> delegate<br />

to ratify the constitution <strong>of</strong> the U. S. in 1788. He lived on<br />

the John <strong>Lewis</strong> place, Boston street, <strong>Lynn</strong>. Children: (1)<br />

12, 1765, in Rehoboth. (8) Joseph. (9) Mary; m. Rev.<br />

Benj. Wadsworth, b. in Milton, July 29, 1750 (second wife).<br />

He d. Jan. 28, 1826. Her will was recorded in Suffolk<br />

County, May 6, 1845.<br />

92. Lois, b. July 17, 1722; d. Nov. 7, 1750; m. May 7, 1750, in Bos-<br />

ton, Capt. Richard Mower, jr. He d. before March 1, 1761.<br />

Their daughter Sarah died Oct. 30, 1750, aged 7 days (g. s.),<br />

a premature birth, that probably caused the mother's death.<br />

93. JOHN, b. Nov. 7, 1724.<br />

56 James <strong>Lewis</strong>, born Nov. 14, 1695, at Swansea;<br />

received by <strong>his</strong> father's will the farm in Swansea, consisting<br />

<strong>of</strong> about 140 acres. On May 8, 1723, he conveyed to<br />

<strong>his</strong> brother Samuel 60 acres in Metapoiset (Bristol County<br />

Deeds, Vol. 16, f. 336), <strong>and</strong> on June 25, 1725, he conveyed<br />

to <strong>his</strong> brother Timothy, a house, barn, outhousing, <strong>and</strong> 80<br />

acres <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong> in Swansea (Bristol County Deeds, Vol. 16,<br />

f. 337). He was executor <strong>of</strong> <strong>his</strong> mother's will, Nov. 29,<br />

1731, <strong>and</strong> was then <strong>of</strong> Rehoboth. On June 7, 1742,<br />

Hannah <strong>Lewis</strong> <strong>of</strong> Greenwich, Providence Co., R. 1., widow<br />

<strong>of</strong> James <strong>Lewis</strong>, for X1000, conveyed to Nathan Pierce <strong>of</strong><br />

Warwick, 100 acres <strong>of</strong> Oak swamp in Rehoboth (Bristol<br />

County Deeds, Vol. 31, f. 74).<br />

57 Timothy <strong>Lewis</strong>, was born in Swansea, Feb. 23,<br />

1697-8. He received by <strong>his</strong> father's will one-half <strong>of</strong> <strong>his</strong><br />

farm, with the dwelling house, it being the southern end<br />

<strong>of</strong> the farm formerly purchased <strong>of</strong> Ephraim Pearce, <strong>and</strong><br />

June 25, 1725, he bought <strong>of</strong> <strong>his</strong> brother James 80 acres <strong>of</strong><br />

l<strong>and</strong> in Swansea, with the buildings thereon.
