district near Salem road. He was a selectman in 1781<br />

<strong>and</strong> 1785 <strong>and</strong> from 1787 to 1790. He removed from Billerica<br />

to Groton on May 24, 1796, where he was highly<br />

respected <strong>and</strong> died lamented June 12, 1810. (See obituary<br />

in Groton Historical Series.) He married Jan. 3, 1760,<br />

Rebecca Brown, born Feb. 18, 1738-9, daughter <strong>of</strong> Samu-<br />

el <strong>and</strong> Mary (Davis-French) Brown, who died Jan. 1,<br />

1814, Ee. 75 years (g.s.)<br />

127 John <strong>Lewis</strong>, born in Wilmington, Aug. 5,<br />

1737, was on the tax list in Billerica, Dec., 1776, for 13 s 9 d .<br />

He was at Bunker Hill, Cambridge, Lexington, <strong>and</strong> at the<br />

siege <strong>of</strong> Boston. He was 2nd Lieutenant in Capt. Stick-<br />

ney's Co. Col. Bridge's regiment, <strong>and</strong> was also Ensign in<br />

Capt. Stickney's Company, <strong>and</strong> Lieutenant in Capt. Solomon<br />

Pollard's Co., Col. Samuel Denny's Regt. <strong>and</strong> marched<br />

to Claverack in 1779. There is no record <strong>of</strong> <strong>his</strong> marriage.<br />

128 Reuben <strong>Lewis</strong>, born in Wilmington, Sept. 25,<br />

1739, was a corporal in Capt. L. Butterfield's Co., Col.<br />

Ebenezer Bridges' regiment, on Apr. 19, 1775. He was<br />

also a Lieutenant in the Continental Army, <strong>and</strong> served<br />

under Gen. Washington in <strong>his</strong> campaigns, <strong>and</strong> was at<br />

White Plains, N. Y., <strong>and</strong> at Valley Forge. He was a<br />

prayerful man, a Christian, a philanthropist <strong>and</strong> a patriot.<br />

He was one <strong>of</strong> the proprietors <strong>of</strong> Groton Academy. He
