acres l<strong>and</strong> in Chester, Apr. 4, 1780, to son Joseph. Had:<br />

(1) Deborah, b. Dec. 20, 1768. (2) Sarah, b. Aug. 27, 1770.<br />

157. John <strong>Lewis</strong> born in Boston, May 10, 1774; married Susanna<br />

(Brown?), born Dec. 18, 1773, <strong>and</strong> died in Boston, Nov. 26,<br />

1837.<br />

AMOS LEWIS, b. Mar. 20, 1794 in Boston, enlisted in the Boston<br />

Home Guard in 1813, <strong>and</strong> was appointed master sailmaker<br />

in the U. S. Navy, Jan. 3, 1825 <strong>and</strong> served on board<br />

the frigates Constitution <strong>and</strong> Constellation (g.s.). He received<br />

<strong>his</strong> discharge Sept. 7, 1832. The Bible which he<br />

carried while in the service is now is the possession <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>his</strong> son Benjamin <strong>Lewis</strong> <strong>of</strong> Sorners Point, Atlantic Co.<br />

N.J. It is said that all <strong>his</strong> teeth were double teeth <strong>and</strong> at<br />

the time <strong>of</strong> <strong>his</strong> death that he had lost but one. After <strong>his</strong> discharge<br />

from the naval service he followed <strong>his</strong> occupation as<br />

sailmaker which <strong>his</strong> three sons under the name <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lewis</strong><br />

Bros., continued after <strong>his</strong> death. He lived in Boston, New<br />

York City, <strong>and</strong> Somers Point, N. J. where hed. March 20,
