123 Benjamin <strong>Lewis</strong>, born in Woburn, Sept. 28,<br />

1729 ; was taxed in Billerica in 1755, <strong>and</strong> was a soldier<br />

in the public service between 1745 <strong>and</strong> 1762. He was an<br />

early settler at Duxbury School Farm, later called Mil-<br />

ford, N. H., where he had a farm on the north side <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Soughegan river, near the Wilton line (History <strong>of</strong> Mil-<br />

ford, N. H.). He removed to Lyndeboro, N. H., where he<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>his</strong> wife were members <strong>of</strong> the church in 1780. He,<br />

<strong>his</strong> brother James, <strong>and</strong> <strong>his</strong> son Benjamin, jr., were taxed<br />

there in 1786. A large slate stone marks <strong>his</strong> resting place<br />

in the old cemetery, <strong>and</strong> is inscribed, " died Jany. 13,<br />

1796, aged 6 7 years." His wife died <strong>and</strong> was buried at<br />

Milford, N. H., her gravestone having the inscription,<br />

"died Oct. 24, 1777, in her 46th year." He married, April<br />

9, 1752, Mary Brown, born in Billerica, Dec. 9, 1731,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Samuel <strong>and</strong> Mary (Davis-French) Brown <strong>of</strong><br />

Billerica.<br />

206. MARY, b. Jan. 19, 1755; m., Nov. 20, 1779, Amos Boardman <strong>of</strong><br />

Reading, b. 1775, son <strong>of</strong> Amos <strong>and</strong> Elizabeth (Smith) Boardman<br />

<strong>of</strong> South Reading. They had a large family.<br />

207. ASA, b. Oct. 22, 1756. He was one <strong>of</strong> the first who enlisted<br />

for three years in the Revolutionary war. His head was<br />

shot <strong>of</strong>f by a cannon ball at the battle <strong>of</strong> Bennington, Aug.<br />

16, 1777.<br />

208. SABAH, b. June 14, 1758; m., 1st, Dec. 23, 1784, Zebadiah Holt<br />

<strong>of</strong> Andover, b. July 28, 1759, <strong>and</strong> d. Mar. 15, 1817; m., 2d,<br />

Jotham Blanchard. Mr. Holt was in the Revolutionary war<br />

from the Concord fight, April 19, 1775, until Dec. 20, 1783,<br />

when he was discharged at headquarters in New York, with<br />

the rank <strong>of</strong> sergeant major. He <strong>of</strong>ten remarked that he did<br />

not receive to the value <strong>of</strong> fifty dollars in silver for <strong>his</strong> ser-
