the 2'' <strong>of</strong> April we had a fair w<strong>in</strong>d, all this time <strong>from</strong> Friday<br />

till this day which was Tuesday, noth<strong>in</strong>g to eat or<br />

dr<strong>in</strong>k that I had any appetite to. All that I took to eat or<br />

dr<strong>in</strong>k I vomited up aga<strong>in</strong>, sick day and night, so bad that<br />

I have not Avords to set it forth, nor can I give any body an<br />

idea <strong>of</strong> it, that hath not felt the same or someth<strong>in</strong>g like it,<br />

and so shall say no more here.<br />

Tuesday night about sunset, i3assed by Cape Sable, the<br />

2"^ day <strong>of</strong> April, The next day and night follow<strong>in</strong>g sailed<br />

with a good gale <strong>of</strong> w<strong>in</strong>d till Friday about -i <strong>of</strong> the clock<br />

<strong>in</strong> the afternoon and then came to Canso Harbour. There<br />

were then at anchor 68 sail <strong>of</strong> vessels and several more<br />

that were not yet <strong>in</strong>. Saturday which was the 6"' <strong>of</strong> April,<br />

which was a very ra<strong>in</strong>y day and dark. The next day was<br />

the Sabbath and Mr. Moody <strong>in</strong> the afternoon preached a<br />

sermon upon Canso Island <strong>from</strong> Psalm 110. ver. 3. "Thy<br />

people shall be will<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the day <strong>of</strong> thy power," to a very<br />

great company <strong>of</strong> people. Doct. was that Christ the great<br />

Capta<strong>in</strong> <strong>of</strong> our Salvation, sends forth his servants to enlist<br />

volunteers <strong>in</strong> his service. Monday at even<strong>in</strong>g, which was<br />

the 8*^ <strong>of</strong> April, came <strong>in</strong> seven more, Thursday came <strong>in</strong><br />

n<strong>in</strong>e more.<br />

I embarked at Boston on board the Hannah and Mary,<br />

Capt, David Carmida, commander, tarried with him till<br />

Friday, the 12"' April, and then shipped on board Capt.<br />

Joseph Smith's schooner Sally, <strong>in</strong> Canso Harbour. That<br />

day <strong>in</strong> the afternoon was a storm <strong>of</strong> snow and w<strong>in</strong>d cold<br />

and severe as almost any <strong>in</strong> w<strong>in</strong>ter, lasted till about mid-<br />

night. Saturday were thunder storms, ra<strong>in</strong> and very dark,<br />

and the night follow<strong>in</strong>g Sabbath day morn<strong>in</strong>g, was the 14"^,<br />

very dark and foggy, some ra<strong>in</strong> and <strong>in</strong> the even<strong>in</strong>g follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

cleared up with a fair N. N. W. w<strong>in</strong>(i. That day we<br />

came <strong>in</strong>to Canso Harbour, was brought <strong>in</strong>. taken by Capt.<br />

Fletcher, a French sIoo^d, loaded with rum, w<strong>in</strong>e brandy<br />

and <strong>in</strong>digo, without the loss <strong>of</strong> a man ;<br />

about the same<br />

time was taken by Capt. Dunahue, and brought <strong>in</strong>to Canso,<br />

three Indians <strong>of</strong> the Cape Sables, and a Sabbath day, the<br />

14*^*^ <strong>of</strong> April, brought <strong>in</strong> eight more. Monday morn<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

fair weather and orders given out to sail, but w<strong>in</strong>d not<br />

suit<strong>in</strong>g, did not sail that day. Tuesday was a fair pleasant<br />

morn<strong>in</strong>g, but the w<strong>in</strong>d contrary, but soon overcast with<br />

clouds and fog that day and night follow<strong>in</strong>g.
