system <strong>of</strong> government with the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Governor vacant,<br />

was once more put <strong>in</strong> operation. <strong>Northampton</strong>, apparently,<br />

was not represented at the session held <strong>in</strong> the summer<br />

and fall <strong>of</strong> 1775, but the next year three members were<br />

chosen :<br />

In accordauce with the recommendations <strong>of</strong><br />

Ammunition Provided.<br />

the authorities, that each town should pro-<br />

vide a supply <strong>of</strong> the munitions <strong>of</strong> war, the<br />

selectmen <strong>in</strong> 1775, made a contract with Breck & Hunt, <strong>in</strong><br />

consideration <strong>of</strong> £47 paid to them by the town, "to keep<br />

and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> for the use <strong>of</strong> the s'' <strong>in</strong>habitants <strong>of</strong> <strong>Northampton</strong>,<br />

the full quantity <strong>of</strong> 345"" <strong>of</strong> good merchantable<br />

gun powder, 730"'^ <strong>of</strong> merchantable Lead, and 1000 <strong>of</strong> good<br />

gun fl<strong>in</strong>ts <strong>in</strong> good condition at all times," to be delivered<br />

for use when wanted. In 1779, the quantity on hand was<br />

delivered to Joseph Clark.<br />

mar School Cau- sclioolmaster was aga<strong>in</strong> rem<strong>in</strong>ded that he<br />

must not be partial to his Lat<strong>in</strong> and Greek<br />

scholars, by an order not to spend more time on them than<br />

on other students.
