turely and deliberately consider, whether any such representatives can<br />

do any one act <strong>in</strong> concert with his excellency, Thomas Gage, Esq.. and<br />

his mandamus council, without an implied acknowledgment <strong>of</strong> the<br />

authoritj' and force <strong>of</strong> the abovesaid acts <strong>of</strong> parliament.<br />

"5. That it is the op<strong>in</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> this Congress, that a prov<strong>in</strong>cial con-<br />

gress is absolutely necessary <strong>in</strong> our present unhappy situation, and that<br />

we approve <strong>of</strong> the proposal made by a late Middlesex congress, that the<br />

said prov<strong>in</strong>cial congress should be holden at Concord, on the second<br />

Tuesday <strong>in</strong> October next, and we accord<strong>in</strong>gly recommend to the several<br />

towns and districts with<strong>in</strong> this county, that each appo<strong>in</strong>t one or more<br />

delegates to attend the same.<br />

" 6. That the collectors, constables, and all other <strong>of</strong>ficers, who have<br />

or shall have by them moneys collected upon the prov<strong>in</strong>ce assessments,<br />

delay mak<strong>in</strong>g payment <strong>of</strong> the same to the Hon. Harrison Gray, Esq.,<br />

until the civil government <strong>of</strong> this prov<strong>in</strong>ce is placed upon a constitu-<br />

tional foundation, but that they deposit the same <strong>in</strong> the treasuries <strong>of</strong><br />

their respective towns and districts.<br />

"7. Whereas, the universal uneas<strong>in</strong>ess which prevails among all<br />

orders <strong>of</strong> men <strong>in</strong> this county, aris<strong>in</strong>g <strong>from</strong> the urgent and oppressive<br />

measures <strong>of</strong> the present adm<strong>in</strong>istration, may <strong>in</strong>fluence some persons<br />

<strong>in</strong>considerately to commit outrages upon particular persons and their<br />

property, we would heartily recommend to all the <strong>in</strong>habitants <strong>of</strong> this<br />

county, not to engage <strong>in</strong> any riots, or licentious attacks upon the person<br />

or property <strong>of</strong> any one, as be<strong>in</strong>g subversive <strong>of</strong> all order and govern-<br />

ment :<br />

but, by a steady, manly, uniform, and persever<strong>in</strong>g opposition to<br />

the said measures, to conv<strong>in</strong>ce our enemies, that <strong>in</strong> a contest so important<br />

and solemn, our conduct shall be such as to merit the approbation<br />

<strong>of</strong> all sober and wise men.<br />

" 8. That <strong>in</strong> the op<strong>in</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> this Congress, all town meet<strong>in</strong>gs ought to<br />

be called agreeably to the laws and ancient usage <strong>of</strong> the prov<strong>in</strong>ce.<br />

"9. That the <strong>in</strong>habitants <strong>of</strong> the several towns and districts with<strong>in</strong><br />

this county, Ije advised, for their own honor, and for the defence <strong>of</strong><br />

their country, that they use the utmost diligence, forthwith, to acqua<strong>in</strong>t<br />

themselves with the military art, under the command and direction<br />

<strong>of</strong> such persons as they shall choose, and that they furnish them-<br />

selves with the full lawful quantity <strong>of</strong> ammunition, and good effective<br />

arms, as soon as may be, for that purpose.<br />

"Attest. Ebenezer Hunt Jr., Clerk."<br />

On the 29*'^, the town met and approved the resolutions<br />

<strong>of</strong> the congress.<br />
