FOURTH FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR.<br />

<strong>Northampton</strong>, July 1, 1755.<br />

Tuesday, set out <strong>from</strong> home to the Expedition to Crown<br />

Po<strong>in</strong>t. Arrived at Westfield, lodged at Clapp's Tuesday<br />

and Wednesday night.<br />

Thursday, set <strong>of</strong>f for Stockbridge, arrived there at dusk,<br />

next day afternoon set out for Cantuhook lodged there.<br />

Saturday morn<strong>in</strong>g set oif for Albany, arrived there about<br />

noon or twelve o'clock.<br />

Sabbath morn<strong>in</strong>g, July G"\ 1755. Went to Mr. Ogelbee's<br />

church, both fore and afternoon, preached an excellent sermon,<br />

text <strong>from</strong> Psalms to prove a Div<strong>in</strong>e Providence. Today<br />

it ra<strong>in</strong>ed forenoon.<br />

Monday, 7**^. Showery at night. Gen. Johnson came to<br />

Albany. I supped with him that night at Landlord Luttridge's.<br />

Stayed with him till about 11 <strong>of</strong> the clock, was<br />

well pleased with his company.<br />

Tuesday, the 8"'. The field <strong>of</strong>ficers waited upon General<br />

Johnson.<br />

Wednesday, 9"'. The armj^ that encamped two miles below<br />

Albany the General went down to view, be<strong>in</strong>g mustered<br />

<strong>in</strong> regimental order and was pleased with their appearance.<br />

Thursday, lO"'. Governor Shirley came to town with<br />

several <strong>of</strong>ficers and two companies <strong>of</strong> soldiers for his army.<br />

At his arrival the cannon <strong>in</strong> the fort was discharged, the<br />

field <strong>of</strong>ficers that were <strong>in</strong> town waited upon the Governor<br />

and drank a glass <strong>of</strong> w<strong>in</strong>e with him.
