Encourage recognition of the qualities and values associated<br />

with a local product (…), resources, knowledge embedded in<br />

their production and their importance to the community<br />

producer - is one way of contributing to society to make<br />

visible the history behind a product. Telling this story means to<br />

communicate cultural and social elements (…), enabling the<br />

consumer to evaluate it and enjoy it properly. It means a<br />

development from the favorable image of the territory and the<br />

product originated. (Krucken 2009: p22)<br />

In order to contribute on the perception of design as a cultural<br />

manifestation of regional types and permeability of the design<br />

concepts in Brazilian society, this study is initially concentrated<br />

on aesthetically attributes manifested by vernacular typog-<br />

raphy and also a reflection on the paradigms of design as a regional<br />

agent.<br />

The design, as discourse, reflects this cultural<br />

phenomenon while also collaborating to build and constant<br />

transformation of this paradigm. As a visual message encoder,<br />

graphic designer establishes a continuous dialogue between<br />

the symbols of the dominant culture and peripheral culture that<br />

is outside the official system. (Finizola 2010: 27)<br />
