Data on distribution <strong>and</strong> abundance of red king crab are essential for<br />

predictions of potential oil <strong>and</strong> gas development impacts, particularly<br />

in regards to early life history stages which may be most susceptible to<br />

hydrocarbon toxicity (Armstrong, et al. 1983a,b). Distribution seems to<br />

be coupled, in part, to physical oceanographic domains which, for the<br />

SEBS shelf including Bristol Bay, are the coastal, middle <strong>and</strong> outer<br />

shelf domains that extend to about the 50 m, 100 m <strong>and</strong> 200 m isobaths,<br />

respectively (Kinder <strong>and</strong> Schumacher 1981a; Figure 1.2-1). Throughout<br />

this area red king crab are distributed somewhat in accord with sex <strong>and</strong><br />
