3) Larvae were in the water column from hatchout in mid-April until<br />

metamorphosis -<br />

at least until late September or early October.<br />

4) These larvae apparently have a protracted hatchout period <strong>and</strong> an<br />

intermolt duration of approximately three weeks.<br />

5) These larvae are homogeneously distributed throughout the water<br />

column from 0-80 m.<br />

6.7 General Shrimp Summary<br />

1. Peak hatch of shrimp larvae in the southeastern Bering Sea occurs<br />

in early April for species in the families P<strong>and</strong>alidae, Crangonidae,<br />

Penaeidae, <strong>and</strong> Hippolytidae; some larvae of the latter family hatch<br />

in early March.<br />

2. Zoeal stages molt about every 2-3.5 weeks <strong>and</strong> are predicted to<br />

metamorphose to benthic juveniles about mid-August to September.<br />

3. Larvae of P<strong>and</strong>alus borealis <strong>and</strong> most p<strong>and</strong>alids are most densely<br />

distributed over the St. George Basin between the 100 m <strong>and</strong> 200 m<br />

isobath (Outer Shelf Domain); P. tridens larval densities are<br />

greatest beyond the shelf-break in deep water.<br />

4. Hippolytid larvae are distributed throughout the St. George Basin<br />

south to Unimak Pass <strong>and</strong> in deep water southwest of the 200 m isobath<br />

to Unalaska Isl<strong>and</strong>.<br />
