One mustn’t jump to too many conclusions from such fragile data since a country,<br />

which approved a toxic drug and then withdrew it counts higher than one that<br />

refused to approve it because of its lack of safety. Again we do not know how many<br />

of the 50 drugs were approved in each country, e.g. if Chad did not approve of any<br />

of the drugs then it should be no surprise that they did not ban any of them. It is<br />

surprising to find Canada so high on the list and Belgium, the Netherlands and<br />

Switzerland so low. First country to withdraw: France and USA 10, Japan 8,<br />

Canada 7, Germany 6, UK, Norway and Italy 3, Denmark and Turkey 2,<br />

Australia, Austria, Brazil, Cuba, Domenica, Egypt, Spain, Finland, Hongkong,<br />

Malaysia, Panama, Singapore, Sweden and Yemen 1. Those in italics have more<br />

than 50% Roman Catholics. Those in bold have less than 50% Roman Catholics.<br />

Griffin and Weber suggested that there was inverse relationship between the<br />

percentage of Catholics in a country and the rate of spontaneous adverse reaction
