Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in<br />
Arts and Cultural Management<br />
The M.A. in Arts and Cultural Management provides students with the<br />
necessary skills and experiences to lead cultural programs and<br />
institutions and respond effectively to the various environments and<br />
global context in which arts and cultural organizations operate. Through<br />
a blend <strong>of</strong> coursework and practical application the program focuses on<br />
strategic thinking and management, resource development (monetary,<br />
artistic, and human), and the ability to recognize and analyze evolving<br />
trends in the culture industry.<br />
Completion <strong>of</strong> the program prepares students to advance into program<br />
and leadership positions within a broad array <strong>of</strong> cultural organizations,<br />
including nonpr<strong>of</strong>its, for pr<strong>of</strong>its, and other organizational collaborations.<br />
The program is designed for current cultural organization staff members<br />
seeking to deepen their management and organizational skills, those<br />
planning to move into the cultural management field, and college<br />
graduates with an arts related background. The 36-credit program can be<br />
completed on an intensive full-time or part-time schedule. Classes meet<br />
throughout the year during the evening and on Saturdays. <strong>Student</strong>s also<br />
complete a pr<strong>of</strong>essional residency <strong>of</strong> no less than 240 hours at cultural<br />
institutions located in the Twin Cities area or around the country. The<br />
program culminates with a capstone paper exploring a topic related to<br />
cultural management and delivered by students at an annual symposium<br />
comprised <strong>of</strong> graduate students, faculty, and arts pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
Program Outcomes<br />
Graduates <strong>of</strong> the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Arts and Cultural Management<br />
program are expected to be able to do the following<br />

and trends.<br />
2. Apply ethical, innovative, and effectual practices.<br />
3. Communicate information respectfully and effectively.<br />
4. Develop intercultural competence in interpersonal and leadership<br />
situations.<br />
5. Create and implement resource development and financial<br />
management strategies.<br />
6. Manage and assess organizational operations and planning.<br />
7. Outline and analyze community relations, outreach, and marketing<br />
activities.<br />
8. Evaluate cultural policy and legal environments for socially<br />
responsible cultural management.<br />
9. Continue lifelong learning to facilitate personal growth and<br />
organizational change.<br />
