Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in<br />
Human Resource Management<br />
The human resource pr<strong>of</strong>essional is a critical, strategic team member in<br />
today’s quickly changing business environment. In addition to directing the<br />
major disciplines within human resource management, this pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
must be able to provide leadership for changes within an organization.<br />
This leadership involves addressing the social, ethical, environmental, and<br />
economic contexts <strong>of</strong> today’s domestic and internationally focused<br />
organizations. The Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Human Resource Management<br />
program prepares graduates for this challenging role through a series <strong>of</strong><br />
courses designed to provide essential leadership knowledge and skills. In<br />
addition, courses in general management principles and skills are<br />
required along with elective courses in specific human resource<br />
management disciplines. The program’s focus is on maximizing individual<br />
and team efforts and developing and applying leadership skills within a<br />
human resources department and within the organization.<br />
Program Outcomes<br />
Graduates <strong>of</strong> the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Human Resource Management<br />
program are expected to be able to do the following:<br />
1. Understand and apply skills in the traditional areas <strong>of</strong> human<br />
resources management, including staffing, employee/labor relations,<br />
compensation, benefits, and individual/organizational development.<br />
2. Lead a human resources department.<br />
3. Identify, respond to, and facilitate organizational change as it relates<br />
to the organization’s mission, vision and strategies.<br />
4. Develop interdepartmental relationships to further strategic<br />
leadership goals.<br />
5. Enhance effective utilization <strong>of</strong> employees and organizational worklife<br />
climate.<br />
6. Develop the skills to mediate and resolve organizational conflicts.<br />
7. Use a variety <strong>of</strong> quantitative and qualitative research techniques.<br />
8. Select and use technology for planning and administering human<br />
resource functions and activities.<br />
9. Work effectively with diverse populations.<br />
10. Communicate effectively in a variety <strong>of</strong> modes.<br />
11. Demonstrate critical thinking skills.<br />
12. Understand the ethical implications <strong>of</strong> their actions.<br />
13. Develop lifelong learning skills.<br />
