Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration<br />

The <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration<br />

combines scholarship, application, and experiences to elevate student<br />

skill-sets with the pr<strong>of</strong>essional capital valued by firms today —<br />

transferable knowledge, judgment, perspective, pr<strong>of</strong>essional insight, and<br />

character. <strong>Student</strong>s will find a flexible program that immerses them in<br />

the quantitative and ethical realities <strong>of</strong> business. The forward-thinking<br />

curriculum imparts solid core knowledge with unique pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

experiences — field study and real-time projects conducted in<br />

partnership with firms from one <strong>of</strong> the nation’s premier business<br />

communities. <strong>Student</strong>s can choose from two curricular options: a<br />

customizable general management MBA (Custom Track) or an MBA<br />

with a specialization (Specialization Track).<br />

An international perspective is integrated across the MBA curriculum.<br />

Ethical dimensions <strong>of</strong> managerial actions and decisions are examined<br />

throughout as students are engaged in corporate social and<br />

environmental responsibility, sustainable economic enterprise, and<br />

issues <strong>of</strong> business character. <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s envisions graduates who are<br />

ready for the business world because they have the foundation for<br />

lifetime pr<strong>of</strong>essional growth, strong business skills, cultural acumen, and<br />

independent thinking used with ethics.<br />

Program Outcomes<br />

Upon completing the program, graduates are expected to do the following:<br />

1. Contribute to the vitality, viability, and value <strong>of</strong> a global organization<br />

through application <strong>of</strong> business principles and theory.<br />

2. Conduct the analysis <strong>of</strong> appropriate financial and economic data<br />

necessary to support organizational decision-making.<br />

3. Communicate effectively in a variety <strong>of</strong> modes within a business<br />

environment.<br />

4. Demonstrate critical and strategic thinking skills related to management<br />

<strong>of</strong> organizations.<br />

5. Understand the ethical and legal dimensions <strong>of</strong> business and the<br />

ethical implications <strong>of</strong> managerial actions.<br />

6. Demonstrate the ability to strategically lead individuals and<br />

organizations in a global context.<br />

7. Demonstrate understanding <strong>of</strong> management and diverse populations,<br />

whether in a domestic or international environment.<br />

8. Continue learning throughout their pr<strong>of</strong>essional lives.<br />

9. Demonstrate scope or depth <strong>of</strong> knowledge in business.<br />

Program Structure<br />

The Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration consists <strong>of</strong> a business core, elective<br />

courses, and a domestic or international capstone experience. Custom Track<br />

students take MBA669 plus any combination <strong>of</strong> at least nine elective credits.<br />

Healthcare administration students take 19 credits <strong>of</strong> electives in their area <strong>of</strong><br />

specialization, while marketing and finance specialization track students take<br />

20 credits <strong>of</strong> electives, including all required courses. Project management<br />

specialization track students take 21 credits <strong>of</strong> electives, including all required<br />

courses. <strong>Student</strong>s with low GMAT scores need to fulfill Foundation<br />

coursework. Prerequisite requirements can be fulfilled with prior learning,<br />

competency testing, or coursework.<br />

Degree Requirements<br />

I. Foundation Courses<br />

Foundation courses are required when students need additional work in<br />

statistics, mathematics or writing before starting the MBA program.<br />

Credits earned do not count towards the MBA total. <strong>Student</strong>s meeting<br />

minimum GMAT and GPA levels are not required to take Foundation<br />

courses.<br />

II. Prerequisites<br />

Prerequisite courses are required when students have not had previous<br />

coursework in the subject area. Credits earned do not count towards the<br />

MBA total. <strong>Student</strong>s who completed equivalent work with a “B” or better<br />

as undergraduates, or who test out <strong>of</strong> prerequisite level knowledge may<br />

not be required to take prerequisite courses. Prerequisite courses must<br />

be completed with a grade <strong>of</strong> “B” or better.<br />
