This course <strong>of</strong>fers participants a framework through which to view the nature<br />

<strong>of</strong> conflict and their relationship with it. The nature <strong>of</strong> conflict and strategies for<br />

resolving it are explored from the perspective <strong>of</strong> conflict as a block to the<br />

natural flow <strong>of</strong> energy, or chi between people. The extent to which conflict<br />

represents imbalance and energy are examined. Strategies for resolving<br />

conflict by addressing imbalances or disease at the mental, emotional and<br />

spiritual levels are explored.<br />

The Art and Practice <strong>of</strong> Executive Coaching (2 cr.)<br />

This course defines executive coaching and compares it to other forms<br />

<strong>of</strong> executive training and development. The rationale for using executive<br />

coaching in light <strong>of</strong> adult learning theories is discussed. A model <strong>of</strong><br />

executive coaching is presented along with various methodologies and<br />

approaches currently used. The benefits <strong>of</strong> executive coaching to the<br />

individual and the organization are highlighted.<br />

This course examines research design for organizational measurement<br />

and assessment. Assessment and evaluation tools are examined for<br />

This course provides an overview <strong>of</strong> the American health and human<br />

service systems, including history, structure, organization and financing.<br />

Major trends affecting the two systems are discussed, including political<br />

climate, regulations, managed care, technology and inequity <strong>of</strong> access.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s explore the origins <strong>of</strong> public welfare and welfare reform, managed<br />

care and health insurance. The role <strong>of</strong> print and electronic media in forming<br />

public opinions about the health and human service systems is also<br />

discussed.<br />

This course examines how the health and social well being <strong>of</strong> general<br />

populations relates to specific client populations. It focuses on the<br />

contributions <strong>of</strong> the fields <strong>of</strong> demography and epidemiology in<br />

understanding how to research and use population-based data to carry<br />

out needs assessments, policy development, program development and<br />

evaluation.<br />

are identified. Current health and human service policy issues facing<br />

This course examines beliefs and practices <strong>of</strong> religious traditions around<br />

the world and the effect they have upon culture, geopolitics and<br />

business. <strong>Student</strong>s examine and analyze the major religions <strong>of</strong> the world<br />

such as Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and<br />

Confucianism, their differences, similarities, and how practice <strong>of</strong> these<br />

religions impacts today’s world.<br />

International Field Study (4 cr.)<br />

Prerequisite: 25 credits completed and program director approval. Preregistration<br />

deposit toward course fee required.<br />

This course provides students with an opportunity for an in-depth<br />

analysis and observation <strong>of</strong> the peoples, religions, culture and<br />

international business in countries outside <strong>of</strong> the United States. It<br />

includes tours, trade shows, meetings with government <strong>of</strong>ficials, cultural<br />

events, and seminars with local experts in which students will take an<br />

active part. Special emphasis is placed on history, cultural awareness,<br />

the role international organizations play in international business and the<br />

effects <strong>of</strong> globalization worldwide. The focus <strong>of</strong> this course is to apply<br />

academic work to analyze international business issues and to increase<br />

travel and cultural competence. The course requires students to analyze<br />

and assess international business practices in light <strong>of</strong> historical,<br />

religious, cultural and geo-political considerations that impact the<br />

particular country or region <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

Crossing Over: Building Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Relationships Between<br />

Law Enforcement and Marriage and Family Therapists (1 cr.)<br />

This course examines the common goals/process as well as<br />

differentiated goals/process in marriage/family therapy and law<br />

enforcement. It is designed to facilitate greater understanding <strong>of</strong> the<br />

alternate discipline and to develop a basis for team-work between law<br />

enforcement <strong>of</strong>ficers/departments and marriage and family therapists.<br />

This team-work will help both communities work toward the good <strong>of</strong> the<br />

greater community.
