Advanced Psychopathology for Children and Adolescents (2 cr.)<br />
This course examines the mental disorders that are typically first<br />
diagnosed during infancy, childhood, or adolescence. The unique<br />
manifestations <strong>of</strong> other mental disorders within the child and adolescent<br />
population are studied. In addition to an evaluation <strong>of</strong> the prevention,<br />
etiology, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment <strong>of</strong> these disorders, the<br />
contributions <strong>of</strong> family, peers, the educational system, and the broader<br />
culture are examined.<br />

Advanced Psychopathology for Early, Middle, and Late<br />
Adulthood (2 cr.)<br />
Prerequisite: PYD841<br />
This course integrates contemporary theories and research associated<br />
with major mental disorders with adult developmental challenges and the<br />
transition to later years. The impact and interaction <strong>of</strong> mental disorders<br />
and life events such as marriage and divorce, birth <strong>of</strong> children,<br />
employment status, retirement, and major losses are examined. In<br />
addition to an evaluation <strong>of</strong> the prevention, etiology, diagnosis,<br />
prognosis, and treatment <strong>of</strong> these disorders, the influence <strong>of</strong> age-related<br />
changes in cognitive and physical functioning and health on emotional<br />
well-being is addressed.<br />

The research, theoretical foundations, and methods <strong>of</strong> humanistic and<br />

Theories and research covered in group process and dynamics are<br />
applied to the practice <strong>of</strong> group therapy. Multicultural and ethical issues<br />
are evaluated. Group skills and techniques are developed and applied to<br />
various types <strong>of</strong> groups comprised <strong>of</strong> different populations in various<br />
settings.<br />

Couple and Family Therapy (2 cr.)<br />
Prerequisites: PYD851, PYD852, PYD853, PYD854<br />
Current research and clinical approaches to couple and family therapy are<br />
the focus <strong>of</strong> this course. Appropriate couple and family therapy interventions<br />
are identified, discussed, evaluated, and practiced. Cultural and ethical<br />
issues in the practice <strong>of</strong> couple and family therapy are highlighted.<br />

Sex Therapy (2 cr.)<br />
Prerequisites: PYD851, PYD852, PYD853, PYD854<br />
Current research and clinical applications in the practice <strong>of</strong> sex therapy<br />
are the focus <strong>of</strong> this course. The assessment <strong>of</strong> sexual concerns and<br />
disorders <strong>of</strong> individuals and couples and the development <strong>of</strong> appropriate<br />
interventions are addressed. The evaluation <strong>of</strong> various treatment models<br />
in working with special populations is explored.<br />

Personality Assessment (2 cr.)<br />
Prerequisite: PYD813<br />
This course explores the theories and concepts <strong>of</strong> personality<br />
assessment and the instruments typically used to assess personality<br />
traits and characteristics. Both objective and projective instruments are<br />
examined. Topics include administering, scoring, interpreting, and<br />
integrating personality test information with interview, collateral, and<br />
background information and cultural features. Emphasis is placed on<br />
incorporating personality test results into psychological reports and<br />
communicating the results to colleagues, the client, and other interested<br />
parties. Ethical issues associated with personality assessment are<br />
examined.<br />

Cognitive Assessment (2 cr.)<br />
Prerequisite: PYD813<br />
The administration, scoring, and interpretation <strong>of</strong> standardized individual<br />
mental tests <strong>of</strong> cognition and memory are examined. These instruments<br />
include current versions <strong>of</strong> standard intelligence and memory scales.<br />
Clients’ culture and background on test results, incorporation <strong>of</strong> results<br />
into psychological reports, and ethical issues are examined.<br />

Projective Personality Assessment (2 cr.)<br />
Prerequisites: PYD861, PYD862<br />
The focus <strong>of</strong> this course is on the administering and interpreting <strong>of</strong><br />
various personality assessment measures, including the Rorschach and<br />
TAT. The empirical literature on projective testing is evaluated.
